Updates Available for OS X Lion and Mountain Lion


Last September 19, Apple released 10.7.5 Lion and 10.8.2 Mountain Lion to address some issues and improve stability. It also improved battery life on portable computers. You can read from Mac Observer’s review on this link. Though the downloads are quite large, I would recommend that you install/update using the client combo installer available from Apple.

The update included the following fixes:

10.7.5 fixes (download client combo update installer here (1.9GB)):

  • Resolve an issue where icons in Launchpad may get rearranged after a restart
  • Improve Wi-Fi reliability for iMacs (Late 2009 and newer)
  • Resolve an issue using Spotlight to search an SMB server
  • Improve compatibility connecting to Active Directory server
  • Includes Gatekeeper, a new security feature that helps keep you Mac safe from Malicious software (bundled in OS X Mountain Lion)


10.8.2 fixes and new features (download client combo update installer here (665.3MB)):

  • Facebook (single sign on, added as an option when sharing links and photos, Facebook friend’s contact info and pictures in Contacts (formerly AddressBook), notifications)
  • Game Center (share scores to Facebook, Twitter, Mail, or Messages, Like button for games, etc)
  • Power nap support for MacBook Air (Late 2010)
  • iMessages sent to your phone number now appear in Messages on your Mac
  • Passess to Passbook (added in iOS 6)
  • New shared Reminder’s lists
  • FaceTime now receives calls sent to your phone number
  • New sort options for Notes (previously Stickies)
  • Dictation support for other languages
  • Dictionary app now includes French definitions
  • Sina Weibo profile photos can now be added in Contacts
  • An option to discard the changes in the original document when choosing Save As...
  • Unsent drafts are opened automatically when launching Apple Mail
  • Receive Twitter notifications for mentions and replies from anyone
  • URLS are shortened when sending tweets from Notification Center
  • Notifications are disabled when AirPlay mirroring is being used
  • SSL support for Google searches in Safari
  • New preference to have Safari launch with previously open webpages
