Apple's new iPhone 5 is a disappointment

I was a bit disappointed with the latest iPhone 5 release from Apple. I have closely monitored its progress, and the rumor was actually true about its new design. Almost the same build as the iPhone 4S, but a little bigger and wider screen.

Don't get me wrong. I'm an Apple fan. But this is one of those press releases where Apple just didn't get it right (as far as I'm concerned). Where's Apple's so called innovation now? Did it bury alongside Steve?

As far is I can say, Apple's new iPhone 5 was merely a minor improvement from its predecessors. There is nothing new. Same old story.

So what's new with iPhone 5? There's nothing really. So shall I say, just a bunch of hardware and design upgrades. See below:

  1. iPhone 5 is made entirely of glass and aluminum with bigger screen size, thinner (7.6mm), and 20% lighter from the 4S.
  2. It has now 5 rows of icons and 4 shortcuts at the bottom
  3. First-party apps are optimised to show more stuff -- merely and application improvement
  4. 44% better color saturation, full sRGB rendering here.
  5. Phil is saying that touch is integrated into the display, so it's thinner and sharper, less glare in sunlight.
  6. HSPA+ is 21Mbps, DC-HSDPA is 42Mbps, and LTE is a max of 100.
  7. There's also 802.11a/b/g/n, and it's dual-channel, up to 150Mbps.
  8. New chip, the A6! 2X faster CPU and 2x graphics compared to the A5 -- is this compared to the A5 or A5X.
  9. Longer battery life. 8 hours of 3G or LTE talk time or browsing. 10 hours on WiFi browsing.
  10. 8-megapixel sensor, a 5-element lens and f/2.4 aperture. Same as the iPhone 4S but thinner.
  11. Panorama is now official feature.
  12. There are three microphones (front, bottom, back) for the voice recognition and noise cancellation.
  13. New smaller connector called Lightning! Now, we'll be charged with another bunch of adaptors to buy!
  14. Two colors. Black or white front. The white version has a raw aluminum back. The black one has the black anodized backing.

That's about it for the new iPhone 5. And Ohh, before I forget. iOS 6 also comes with iPhone 5.

Is it worth an upgrade? Yes, if you are still on iPhone 3G/3Gs.

Sigh. It will never be the same without Steve.
